Texas based global company Silicon Labs are highly specialized in conductors and semiconductors. Their products are used in modern cars which are quickly adopting new sensors such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), automated driving functions, 5G telematics, Ethernet and audio/visual displays.
One of their suppliers for intelligent components are Cabcon. At the Norwegian branch of Silicon Labs, Håvard Moen is the Staff Operations Engineer. For the past two years he has been working with Cabcon. Mr. Moen said:
“We have a good relationship with Cabcon as they are very focused on solutions. I could trade with any supplier in the World, but I find it important that Cabcon are represented in Norway. It is a good thing to meet face-to-face. Also, good communication is crucial for our Corporation.”
Cabcon have been involved in almost the entire package of connectors for Silicon Labs in Norway, but also cables and some passive components as antennas and inductors bear Cabcons fingerprint. Mr. Moen said:
“Cost is always a factor in our business, but these days reliable lead times turns out to be just as important. Cabcons´ experts are always responding quickly with a determination to solve things right away. Also, they have a high degree of flexibility when it comes to terms of delivery. We have a good dialogue and experience good service from Cabcon. That means a lot.”
Furthermore, Cabcon are reducing costs on development kits – mainly on connectors – and doing so by finding the right components at the right price – sometimes combining standard components in new ways.
The products Håvard Moen and his team are working on are among other things used in evaluation cards (digi keys). Often the development process is years underway at Silicon Labs and it often happens that Cabcon are involved half-way into the development project, thus playing a part in the developing process.
Also, Cabcon are looking into existing products to find ways of reducing the cost or otherwise improving solutions:
“Within our segment we are very satisfied that we are trading with Cabcon,” Mr. Moen concluded.
